Here's a wand I made as a commission from cherry, then colored with ebony stain. The commissioner requested a wand resembling a rapier, a design I tried to emulate with the pointed shaft-handle separator and the raised spiral going in the opposite direction. The swirls of the handle were inspired by fencing foils, as was the pommel. I started with a 3/4" diameter cherry dowel, which I whittled down to the rough shape. I then sanded the wand with 100, 150, 320, and 600 grit sandpaper and stained it. The wand was then finished with a few coats of acrylic varnish. I then made the box to house the wand using the book!Ravenclaw color scheme.
